"During the year 2025, I completed the courses Oceanography and Marine Ecology, which have been essential to my academic and personal development. These classes allowed me to understand the physical, chemical, and biological processes that regulate ocean functioning, such as ocean currents, water temperature, ocean circulation, and interactions between marine organisms and their environment.
These courses are important to me because they provide a strong foundation for understanding how marine ecosystems respond to both natural changes and human activities. They have also helped me develop a critical perspective on ocean conservation and the responsible use of marine resources, which are key aspects of my professional development.
The knowledge and skills gained from Oceanography and Marine Ecology can directly benefit the people of Rapa Nui, where the ocean plays a central role in cultural identity, food security, and the local economy. For example, understanding the ocean dynamics surrounding the island can help identify areas that are more vulnerable to pollution, overfishing, or the impacts of climate change. Additionally, knowledge of Marine Ecology can support the development of sustainable resource management strategies, contributing to the protection of local marine species and the conservation of coastal ecosystems. In this way, these learnings can strengthen marine conservation initiatives, environmental education, and informed decision-making, helping to protect Rapa Nui’s natural heritage for future generations."
