The vocation to study what I am currently doing is due to my brief 3-year stay at the Haŋa Roa Hospital in Rapa Nui. When I began to work as a person responsible for the payment of hospital services and it was there that I learned about the work of healthcare officials, especially the role of Medical Technologists. I had a good experience from the technologists at that time, who were kind in explaining their work to me and that's when I discovered that this was what I wanted to dedicate myself to and to make a career for life. And then I left the job, to study this career no matter what.
Because you work with people and you want to solve their physical and mental pain, their discomfort that afflicts them. There is personal satisfaction when the exam is performed and their pain can be relieved, in addition to the integration of knowledge from the scientific world to heal.
In the field of radiology, there are few professionals on the island who are dedicated to the study and diagnosis of bone fractures, tumors (cancer). In addition, I will be able to work in my area of expertise, since there are few Rapa Nui people who are dedicated to the subject, both ultrasound and computed tomography, which are the things that interest me most within my profession. Finally, consider that in the future, we have to look forward to the latest existing technology, which is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which requires technicians who know how to work with it because it would help eliminate unnecessary travels from the island to the mainland, and that is significant stress relieve for the Rapanui people that are not used to wander in the big cities of Santiago of Chile.
