"My name is Otea Araki, I am 20 years old, and I was born and raised on Rapa Nui, a place that is not only my home, but the foundation of everything that motivates me. Growing up on such a unique island taught me the value of identity, community, and responsibility toward preserving who we are. At the same time, living in an isolated territory awakened my curiosity about the world, other languages, cultures, and ways of life, and how that knowledge can connect with our own reality.
My life experience naturally led me to see higher education as a powerful tool for change. I have completed two years of my university studies and still have approximately two and a half years remaining. The journey has not been easy, but it has been deeply meaningful. Every effort I make has a clear purpose: to turn my education into something useful for my community.
I am passionate about my field of study because it combines knowledge, discipline, and a vision for the future. Studying is not just about learning information; it is about developing critical thinking, solving real-world problems, and adapting to a constantly changing world. These skills are especially important in Rapa Nui, where development must coexist with cultural and environmental preservation.
My goal is to use my education to directly benefit the Rapa Nui people, contributing from my professional field with both a local and global perspective. I want to support sustainable development projects, create better opportunities for future generations, and help our island engage with the world without losing its essence. I firmly believe that investing in my education is an investment in the future of my community."
