I have been involved in higher education for over 35 years at the University of Texas and California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. My area of emphasis has been in public policy, emphasizing minority rights in a society that has not always legally accepted or tolerated them for people of color in America. This has inspired me to take an academic and practical interest in this topic. I have been active in political, cultural, and social organizations that have promoted the interests and needs of what society considers the "socially undesirables" or the "Other." My undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California and graduate degree at Stanford University are in Political Science. Education is an avenue for equal opportunity for communities of color that have been denied that opportunity; that is why the EIF is of personal interest to me.
