"1. Name two classes you took in 2025.
English intermediate lessons, Sign language for the deaf people, Internship Hospital work (4 months)
2. Why were these two classes important to you?
Because it enhances my skills to treat patients that need medical help. I had a brief training in the use of ultrasound, x-ray machines, mammography at the Hospital in Santiago, Chile . A complete and detailed lessons for a period of 4 months on brain pathologies, traumatic injury assist (I observed and took radiographs of many wrist fractures), also orthopedic image training. Pediatric pelvis training is necessary for treatment in case of femoral bone dysplasia
3. How will the skills and knowledge from those classes benefit the people of Rapa Nui?
For example, I can help development in mammography there is a new technology called “Mammography tomosynthesis” which is a modern type of breast imaging that helps doctors find breast cancer earlier and more accurately, (that they have here in Rapanui but don’t know how to use).
Instead of taking just one flat X-ray picture of the breast, this technology takes many pictures from different angles. A computer then puts these images together to create a detailed, three-dimensional view of the breast.
This is helpful because it allows doctors to see small changes that might be hidden in a regular mammogram. It also reduces mistakes, so fewer women are called back for extra tests.
For patients, the exam feels almost the same as a standard mammogram, but it provides clearer and more reliable results.
Also I had a brief training program on Ultrasound, and I can help with early detection of Choledocholithiasis, which is a disease where gallstones gets stuck in the common bile duct."
